Frequently Asked Questions
Can Avendren® Building Systems really offer cost savings over conventional construction without reducing quality?
Yes! Avendren provides buildings that are just as high-quality as conventional construction—sturdier than most stick-built construction, in fact—yet offers a significant cost and time savings by pre-fabricating components in our controlled and standardized factory environment. Bringing our completed walls, roof structures, and interior finishes to assemble on your site is far less costly than full on-site construction, and also greatly reduces the timeline and construction footprint of your project.
Our clients see additional cost savings due to the pre-approval of our designs by the Division of the State Architect. They benefit from lower architectural drawing costs, lower DSA submission fees, and a streamlined permitting process that saves even more time and money.
When we say Avendren is out to revolutionize educational construction, we mean it.
Can you really have a new classroom up and running faster than we'd be able to have initial designs and plans approved?
Not to brag, but…yes! Because our designs are already drawn and DSA-approved, we can literally cut months off of your construction timeline. Combined with our rapid manufacturing technique and the short time needed for on-site assembly, we can have your classroom full of students before you’d be ready for a bid date using traditional construction.
How can Avendren ensure lower maintenance costs when the initial construction is so much faster and less costly?
Our proprietary manufacturing process isn’t just faster than traditional wood or “stick-built” construction, it also leads to a stronger product. Our solid, reinforced concrete walls can stand up to much more abuse from the elements (and any unruliness) than traditional walls constructed on-site. Simply put, it takes a LOT of force to damage these structures, which means less maintenance.
Even better, there are far fewer issues with moisture, dry rot, termites, and the other myriad problems that can affect the structural integrity of wood-based construction. Your exteriors and structures remain worry-free for decades, and watertight assembly means your interiors stay dry, clean, and comfortable.
Our school needs a new science lab—can the floors in your buildings handle the excess load?
Avendren buildings come standard with slab floors of 5″ reinforced concrete, flat on grade. These floors are capable of standing up to most applications, and we’re happy to engineer even stronger floors to accommodate special uses.
Do we need to work with our own architect to start the building process with Avendren?
A site plan will need to be created, and we’re happy to work with you and your architect to achieve any vision you have for your school. When it comes to the new buildings themselves, Avendren’s designs are already completed and approved.
Our wall-mounted HVAC units are noisy, unsightly, and a frequent source of maintenance costs due to breakage and vandalism. Can Avendren solve this problem for us?
Roof-mounted air conditioner/HVAC units stay out of sight and out of mind, and we also install a vibration-dampening curb under our HVAC units to minimize noise. Ducted air systems rather than direct fans also reduce noise, and Avendren’s buildings are naturally more resistant to heat transfer—meaning more efficiency and less use of your air conditioner and/or heater.
We're located in a high-wind region and are constantly needing to repair our roofs. What can Avendren do to reduce maintenance costs and classroom disruptions?
Avendren buildings come standard with a 50-year standing seam roof engineered to withstand 130 mph winds. These metal roofs can withstand debris and the force of the wind itself, leading to dramatically reduced needs for maintenance and virtually eliminating any disruptions due to damaged roofs.
Are Avendren buildings ADA Compliant?
Yes! Our slab-on-grade construction method means all of our buildings are fully ADA compliant, with ground-level entrances that all learners, instructors, and administrators can access with ease.
Our band room needs about 1900 square feet of open space. Can your buildings accommodate this without interior walls providing support?
Our 60′ x 32′ clear-span building provides plenty of open space to accommodate all your drums, tubas, and enthusiastic young musicians.
Is an Avendren Building Systems classroom appropriate for a Head Start facility we're adding to our campus?
Absolutely! Our pre-approved buildings are safe, comfortable, and appropriate for learners of all ages and activities of all kinds.
